Chairman of the Leadership Tribal against Pruaitch disqualified
Chairman of the Leadership Tribunal against Aitape-Lumi MP Minister Patrick Pruaitch has been disqualified.
Justice Nicholas Miviri’s disqualification comes after Public Prosecutor Pondros Kaluwin raised objection that Justice Miviri was involved in the same case before as a prosecuting counsel.
The Tribunal bench members comprise National Court Judge Justice Nicholas Miviri as Chairman and senior magistrates Michael Apie’e and Nancy Lipai as tribunal members.
The tribunal is now been adjourned to such a time a new chairman is appointed.
The Ombudsman Commission presented 11 allegations of misconduct against Mr Pruaitch when he was the then Minister for Finance and Treasury.
He was initially referred to the Leadership Tribunal on the 29th September 2009 by the public prosecutor.
The allegations of misconduct were later reduced to eight.
After multiple preliminary court proceedings filed over the years by Pruaitch, the Supreme Court in December last year dismissed his application on abuse of process and order the tribunal to start.
