Court throws out Election petition Challenge against Angoram MP Waipo

Angoram MP Salio Waipo is now a free man, after an election petition challenging his election victory, was thrown out by the Waigani National Court this morning.

Mr. Waipo told NBC News today that he is relieved that this case is now over, and he will now concentrate fully on serving his people of Angoram, for the remainder of this Parliamentary term.

Mr. Waipo's Lawyer Tony Waisi in a statement, said that the Election Petition filed by Professor Kenneth Sumbuk, challenging Mr. Waipo's election was dismissed by the National Court Judge Justice Robert Lindsay.

Mr. Waisi also said the Court dismissed all the six bribery allegation charges against Mr. Waipo, because the pleadings offend Section 208 (a) of the Organic Law, on National and Local Level Government Elections.

He also confirmed that Mr. Sumbuk as the petitioner, has been ordered by the Court to pay the cost of his client, and that of the Electoral Commission as well.
