Reports of New cases of COVID-19 in PNG false, says Manning
Controller of the National Pandemic Response and Police Commissioner Mr. David Manning said reports of new cases of COVID-19 in Port Moresby is false.
David Manning informed the public that its only rumor circulating on social media.
And he cautioned the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and fake news adding that it is also a criminal offense under the country's cybercrime laws.
PNG Currently has 11 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with the last case confirmed on the 25th of June.
The 9th case has been repatriated to his home country, while the other two last cases that are still active are being monitored.
According to Mr. Manning, the rapid response team of the National Capital District continues to conduct case investigation and contact tracing, in collaboration with the teams from the Department of Health, the PNG Defence Force, the Australian Defence Force, St John Ambulance and the World Health Organization .
Mr. David Manning said that any new cases will be confirmed and announced to the public through the National Control Centre.
Manning urged people to get their information from reliable sources and not share anything from unverified platforms.
The Controller said the threat of COVID-19 remains and urged everyone to continue "niupela pasin" public health measures.
He said anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms, fevers, coughs, sore throats, body aches, or difficulty breathing must stay at home and immediately call the toll free line 1800 200.
