Cocaine Seized by PNG authorities sent to Australia
The cocaine seized by Papua New Guinea authorities outside Port Moresby recently has been uplifted to Australia for safe-keeping.
Prime Minister James Marape told Parliament yesterday, he allowed the 750 kilograms of cocaine to be flown to Australia so it can be kept safe as evidence while police continue investigating the matter.
Mr. Marape said Papua New Guinea and Australian Federal Police (AFP) continue to work together to ensure more accomplices on both PNG and Australia side face arrested and justice.
He said Police Commissioner David Manning has been working closely with the AFP and knew the plane was coming in from Australia.
Mr. Marape said a technical fault resulted in the plane crashing at an illegal temporary strip at Lealea while attempting to take off, resulting in the arrest and charging of the pilot.
He said otherwise the pilot would have been arrested when the plane returned to Australia.
Mr. Marape was responding to questions by the Member for Ialibu Pangia Peter O'Neill on the lack of policing nationwide.
