PNG Public Service Sector Needs Young Managers
The Public sector needs to invest more in training young managers in order to change the public service delivery mechanism and culture into the future
The secretary of the Parliamentary committee on public sector reforms Mr. David Sode made these remarks at the workshop on public sector reforms and cost control yesterday.
He said the biggest thing missing in the public sector today are competent outstanding performing managers.
Mr. Sode explained in his presentation that the parliamentary committee on Public sector reforms wants reform to start with investing in young people as people make things and systems work.
He said the committee also has a long term view to change the public sector culture in the next couple of decades through Investing in training of a future generation of managers for the public service.
He said currently Papua New Guineans turn to respect foreign managers more than local managers.
He challenges the heads of departments and state-owned entities to never come down too low to the level of their staff and mix around with them as this will compromise their position to effectively manage the organization.
He further said there must be a clear line of respect between Chiefs and Indians at any organization, as becoming a leader or taking on a Leadership role is a lonely road to take.
