PNG Records 5 new COVID-19 Cases - PNG Total stands at 546

Five new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases have been reported in Papua New Guinea in the last 24 hours, bringing PNG's total COVID-19 cases to 546.

Three cases were confirmed in the National Capital District (NCD) whilst two new cases have been confirmed in West New Britain (WNB).


The new cases now bring the total number of confirmed cases in NCD to 326 whilst WNB increased to five.

The three cases in NCD were: a 66-year-old male who has shortness of breath at the time of testing; a 41-year-old male who has fever, cough and shortness of breath; and an 81-year-old male who was admitted to Port Moresby General Hospital for stroke while also experiencing fever, cough and shortness of breath.

In WNB, both cases, a 28-year-old male and a 62-year-old male, were detected through airport screening and surveillance. Both cases are asymptomatic.

PNG’s confirmed COVID-19 cases is 546 whilst death from COVID-19 remains at seven.

To date, a total of 26,417 persons have been tested for coronavirus. An additional 124 samples are pending laboratory results.

A total of 532 people recovered from COVID-19 whilst seven active cases are being isolated.

There are 13 provinces in the country that have confirmed cases:

Globally, since the start of the outbreak, there have been a total 36,028,978 confirmed cases and the death toll stands at 1,053,987.

There was an increase of 307,590 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours. In the Western Pacific region, a total of 13 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 636,191 cases and 13,836 deaths.
