11- year old Test Positive for COVID-19 : PNG cases Reach 550

An 11-year-old female student is the latest person to be tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours.


The case is a resident of Taurama in Moresby South electorate. She has no symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing but is a contact of a positive case.

This brings the total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Papua New Guinea to 550. The National Capital District now has 330 whilst Western Province remains as the second highest with 191 confirmed cases.

To date, there are 26,507 people in PNG that have been tested for coronavirus. There are 31 samples with pending laboratory results.

Out of the total cases, 528 people have recovered whilst 10 persons with COVID-19 are being isolated. The country’s death toll from COVID-19 remains at seven.

Globally, since the start of the outbreak, there have been 36,705,845 confirmed cases and the death toll stands at 1,065,609.

There was an increase of 343, l793 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.

In the Western Pacific region, a total of 14 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 643,551 cases and 14, 059 deaths.
