PNG Government releases First Quarter School Subsidy
The first quarter of this year's Government's Tuition Fee Policy (GTFP) of K123 million has been released to the Education Department to be disbursed to elementary, primary, and secondary schools throughout the country.
PNG Prime Minister James Marape handed over the cheque to Education Minister Jimmy Uguro and Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra this morning in Port Moresby.
Mr. Marape said the funds will be transferred to schools to make sure parents do not pay any school fees upfront.
He said they have instructed schools to allow parents to pay their 37 percent component in the last quarter of the academic year which is around September.
''Before the close of the first term, we will ensure that the second quarter is released.
''We will try our very best to ensure before June this year, the full K486 million is released before June, July of this year so that there is enough money for schools expenditures right through,''
said Marape.
Prime Minister Marape reiterated education remains a pivotal and number one focus in the government's commitment.
