Six new COVID-19 deaths on Friday 26 March – PNG total deaths now at 45

 Papua New Guinea has recorded six new COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours to 12 noon on Friday 26 March, increasing the country’s total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 45.

The six new deaths were all recorded in the National Capital District. Four males and two females, ages ranging from 28 to 73 years were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit until their death.

The six new deaths comes as 220 more COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, increasing PNG’s total COVID-19 cases to 5,184.

Western Province reported 140 new cases of which 118 are males and 21 females. The youngest is a 15-year-old whilst the oldest is 65. Four of the cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 whilst 130 cases were asymptomatic at the time of testing.

NCD reported 44 new cases of which 25 are males and 17 are females. The youngest of the 44 reported cases is a three-year-old whilst the oldest is 75. Twenty-two cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 whilst 22 were asymptomatic at the time of testing.

Morobe province reported 21 new cases of which 12 are males, seven females and two are unknown. The youngest is 13-years-old whilst the oldest is 75. All cases were showing symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing.

New Ireland Province reported seven new cases of which all cases are males. The youngest was a 28-year-old whilst the oldest is at 87. Three cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 whilst four were asymptomatic at the time of testing.

Central province reported six new cases of which two are males and four females between the ages of 22 to 60 years. Five cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 whilst one was asymptomatic at the time of testing.

West Sepik reported two cases between the ages of 30 to 52 years old. All two cases were showing symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing.

The country’s total COVID-19 cases as a result stands at 5,184 with 45 known deaths.

Twenty provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases. The distribution of the cases is as follows:

• Hela - 20

• Milne Bay - 11

• Gulf - 10

Total - 5,184

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 124,871,140 including 335,638 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll is 2,744,543 of which 10,421 were reported in the last 24 hours.
