Australia Sends in More Medical Experts to Assist PNG

Australia has announced that it will be sending an additional 20 members of the Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) to Papua New Guinea to assist in the COVID-19 response. 

The team will provide expert specialist support to PNG’s National Control Centre for COVID-19, and also help to establish safe and effective systems, to support the management of severe and critical cases.




The Australian High Commission in a media advisory said that the team will be primarily operating out from the Port Moresby General Hospital.

It also said that the arrival of AUSMAT Bravo is part of Australia’s comprehensive support to PNG’s response to the pandemic, at the request of the National Government.

The team is expected to arrive in the country around midday today, Friday the 09th of April, 2021.
