PNG Police say the 29-year-old man from East Sepik Province allegedly stabbed his two-year-old and five-year-old sons repeatedly, at their rented accommodation at Morata late yesterday afternoon

A statement from the police says the man also tried to take his own life but was restrained and held by members of the community.

Police were alerted where Waigani Police, Mobile Squad Unit and Fox 201 responded, went to the scene and took custody of the man.

CID Homicide and Scene of Crime Detectives also attended to the scene.

Saint John's Ambulance also attended to the scene and transported the bodies of the two boys to the Port Moresby General Hospital.

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Gideon Ikumu will release details after a full report is compiled by CID Homicide Detectives after the man is formally charged.
