Bougainville News : Masiu Opens Atsinima Aidpost
The member for South Bougainville and Minister for ICT became the first member of Parliament to visit the people of Atsinima in the remote, West coast Bougainville, only accessible by boat or helicopter.
The member flew by helicopter from Buin to open a new aidpost built with DSIP funds for South Bougainville.
He then stayed back to open a Double Classroom at Laruma Primary school also in inland Torokina.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Minister thanked his DDA board member representing Torokina for requesting for this Project.
He said it was the project of the people of Atsinima through their member who know their people's needs.
The Minister said that since he was elected in 2016 he has tried to help the people of South Bougainville and Bougainville as a whole and the whole PNG as a National Minister.
He called on the people to work hard on their Cocoa blocks and have money in their pockets as he has just launched the BUSIBA South Bougainville Corporation Limited that was established to support the people of South Bougainville and Bougainville as a whole with Price support.
The Minister said the DSIP funds are already tied to projects like Education, Health, road school fee support, infrastructure and cannot really meet the needs of our people.
The minister also promised to give a boat and engine to the new Atsinima Aid post.
He also presented a Ten thousand kina to the Atsinima Primary School that has only seen Ausaid support through a teacher's house over the past four decades.
The Minister also mentioned that a Karato school Double Classroom has already been approved by the District Development Authority. The Karato aid post will serve a catchment area of 1000 people
