Transparency International PNG says the recent announcement by the National Gaming Control Board to build a casino in Port Moresby raises serious governance implication on the sector.

It has been reported that NGCB and the Paga Hill Development Corporation signed an MOU to build a casino, which in its first phase of development would cost K150-million.

Board Chairman of TIPNG Peter Aitsi says in signing the agreement, the  State through NGCB is seriously undermining its independence as the industry regulator.

Mr Aitsi says the global experience with casinos suggest an increased livelihood of money - laundering and undue political influence, where the regulator is weak or is compromised.

The Anti-corruption  Watchdog calls for details of the MOU to be made public including the financial details.
