PNG Governor General Calls on Marape Government Not to Entertain Request From Provinces to breakaway

Papua New Guinea Governor-General, Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae, has used Remembrance Day to call on the Government not to entertain any requests from provinces, to break away from Papua New Guinea and seek independence.

Speaking at the 40th Remembrance Day Commemorative Memorial Service at the Remembrance Park at Ela Beach in Port Moresby this morning, Sir Bob says PNG is at the crossroad between prosperity and disintegration.

He says PNG is facing one of its toughest times and the most challenging in 45 years of independence

Sir Bob says PNG's disintegration is inevitable as one of the 600 islands continue to press for secession with three other provinces being granted the nod to pursue the highest form of autonomy, similar to that of the autonomous region of Bougainville.

He says PNG must do all it can to remain as one nation, adding requirements of the National Constitution take precedent, and there are no shortcuts.

Sir Bob also urged Papua New Guinean's to reflect on the many Papua New Guinean's who lost their lives while serving the country, including missionaries as well.

Meanwhile, the Governor-General has urged Papua New Guinean's to respect the decisions and sacrifices of the forefathers and leaders, and what they did to bring the country to self-government and independence.

Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae says PNG's forefathers sacrificed so much for the country to bring it to where it is today.

He says that is why every Papua New Guinean's must respect them and live in peace and unity.
