During his visit, the Prime Minister will meet ExxonMobil officials in Houston to push forward the Papua LNG project and discuss timelines for the P’nyang and Wildebeest gas fields. In addition, he will meet Newmont Corporation executives to discuss the Wafi-Golpu Mine Development Contract.
He is also scheduled to participate in a small climate and biodiversity roundtable in the United Kingdom hosted by King Charles III, underscoring PNG’s international role in forest protection and carbon market engagement.
“This trip has two clear objectives,” said Marape. “To accelerate our resource projects and to position Papua New Guinea as a global conservation partner during the clean energy transition.”
Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso has been appointed Acting Prime Minister in Marape’s absence, with the Prime Minister assuring the public that government operations will continue without disruption.
Marape stressed the need to maximise PNG’s oil and gas development within the next two decades before fossil fuels lose market relevance. He also called on the international community to support PNG’s forest conservation efforts financially.
