Prime Minister Marape says that PNG is closely monitoring the situation, and will assist its Wan Solwara neighbour if help is needed.
He says that he also joins many other Papua New Guineans who have sent their thoughts and prayers to the people of Tonga, at this trying time.
It's estimated that up to 80 000 people could have been affected by the massive volcanic eruption.
