PNG Prime Minister James Marape arrived in China 🇨🇳 on Thursday evening on the invitation by Chinese President Xi Jinping for bilateral discussions of the both countries.

Prime Minister Marape’s visit to China was upon the invitation by Chinese President Xi Jinping to witness the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Prime Minister Marape was accompanied by a lean delegation of senior ministers who will also go to France from China.

PM Marape arrived in China upon Chinese President Xi’s invitation for a sporting event, this event represents a very small part of this bilateral.

This visit was for the most part, business and trade related and he and his delegation are going there to pursue business discussions with China and France.

PM Marape is accompanied by Commerce, Trade & Industry Minister, William Samb who has a role to play in China and France.  The Petroleum and Fisheries Ministers are representing some of the other sectors.

They are going out there to discuss and attract large investors to come into our downstream processing space.

Papua New Guinea under our Marape-Basil Government and more importantly the coalition of present generation of leaders feel that our resources should no longer be exported raw, like round log export and coffee.
