The companies have highlighted that due to bad weather issues, most of their operating staff have fallen ill and the companies were not able to fully operate their services.
PNG Air in its statement states that due to an unusual number of operating staff falling ill, it is not been able to fully operate its services.
ANG says its flights were disrupted due to a much higher number of the crew than usual falling sick, as well as the current wet weather conditions across the country impacting on the airline’s operations.
However, both airlines did not clarify whether their staff illnesses are due to COVID-19 related.
Meantime, both airlines have assured the travelling public that they are doing their best to ensure full operations resume safely, considering the health and well-being of their flight crew, employees and passengers.
Both Air Niugini and PNG Air have also assured passengers who have missed out on their flights that they will be accommodated onto the next available flights.
