Flags at Half Mast for Late PNG Deputy Prime Minister
East Sepik Governor Alan Bird has expressed his heartfelt condolences on the untimely passing of Bulolo MP and Deputy Prime Minister late Sam Basil.
He said the Deputy Prime Minister championed good governance for a long time and fought successive governments from the Opposition bench.
Governor Bird said the late Basil's leadership of Pangu Party and the people of Morobe in 2017 had a significant impact on PNG's politics in this term.
He said it was an outstanding achievement that many members had not expected but welcomed wholeheartedly.
Governor Bird said the Momase region and the country have lost a great leader and a master tactician.
Meanwhile, the people of Milne Bay Province also extended their heartfelt condolences to the family and people of Wau-Bulolo over the tragic passing of Mr. Basil.
The province's flags are flying at half mast today in respect of the late leader.
In a statement today, Milne Bay Governor Sir John Luke Crittin, said "we share our deepest condolences to the immediate family, people of Wau/Bulolo and the people of Papua New Guinea for the loss of a Statesmen, current serving Member of Parliament, Deputy Prime Minister and family member.
Sir John said PNG has again lost a vibrant leader.
