Mr. Marape in a statement this afternoon (Thursday, 2nd June 2022) says Papua New Guinea remains “friends to all and enemies to none" and this has been its stance since Independence.
The PM says In 1976, Pangu Pati, under the wisdom of founding father the late Sir Michael Somare, declared a One-China Policy long before the geopolitics of today and the present leadership will maintain this policy discourse.
He adds that China is the second-largest economy in the world and has always been a “very strategic and important bilateral partner with PNG”.
Marape says PNG recognises China not only in matters of government-to-government relationships but more importantly, people-to-people and business-to-business relationships.
The PM says Mr. Wang's visit is a reflection and gesture of his belief that PNG is an important country in the Indo-Pacific Region - and that he looks forward to meeting with him tomorrow - Friday 3rd June 2022.
