PNG NAC closes Port Moresby and Lae Airports, domestic and International Flights affected

International flights out of Port Moresby and Lae  in Papua New Guinea are affected after the National Airport Corporation (NAC) closed the at Jacksons International Airport and Lae Nadzab airports. 

Airlines in PNG have advised the general public of the closure of airports and cancellation of flights. Air Niugini has informed  their customers  that early on Saturday morning(12th November), National Airports Corporation (NAC) advised that they had closed both Port Moresby and Nadzab airports for all flights.

At 8:30am , NAC reopened Port Moresby airport for international flights only. PX3 to Brisbane (and PX4 return) and PX80 to Honiara (and PX81 return) will operate but are significantly delayed as a consequence. 

NAC has advised that both Port Moresby and Lae airports remain closed for all domestic flights, and NAC expect the airport will not reopen until Sunday morning

Air Niugini is hopeful the situation is rectified earlier and that domestic flights will be able to recommence on Saturday afternoon. 

We will continue to update as information becomes available.

We will advise as soon as we are aware of when Air Niugini is allowed to resume flights.  

Air Niugini will book all disrupted passengers onto the next available flight, including those who were unable to make it on PX3 or PX80 this morning. 

Air Niugini regrets the inconvenience caused, however the situation is beyond the airline’s control. 


PNG Air also informed their customers of the closure of airports and they cancellation of flights.

PNG Air regrets to advise our customers and the travelling public that due to circumstances beyond our control, all scheduled passenger, charter and cargo flights for Saturday 12th November have been cancelled. 

This is unfortunately due to the closure of Port Moresby’s Jacksons Airport, while airport authorities work on resolving issues related to security of the aerodrome.

Due to the nature of this notice, PNG Air sincerely asks for passengers patience and understanding in this time, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to your travel plans.

Flights for Sunday 13th November remain as scheduled.
