PNG joins 15 other Nations in Celebration as King Charles III Crowned as King of Commonwealth Nations

Papua New Guinea (PNG) has joined 15 other Commonwealth realms in celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III with a significant ceremony held at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium in Port Moresby tonight (06.05.2023)

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape in welcoming Charles III as the King for the Commonwealth countries said King Charles III has been part and parcel of the growth and development of and has  had a long-standing relationship with Papua New Guinea over the years.  

King Charles III Crowned as King of Commonwealth Nations

He first visited the country in 1966 as the Prince of Wales and was also present to officially open the House of Legislation in 1984.

PM Marape in his speech says it is a historic event to witness the Coronation of a monarch after 70years when the last Coronation was held in 1953.

He says he is privileged to have met and spoken to  King Charles III knowing that he has at heart the Commonwealth nations throughout the world.

He says PNG is proud to be part of the family of Commonwealth countries and wishes the King the very best as he takes on the role of the King.

 A live coverage of the Coronation was broadcasted on BBC for Commonwealth countries to witness the crowing of his Majesty King Charles III.

 His Majesy King Charles III was crowned as the 40th Crowned King in the British Monarch at 09:05 pm PNG time.

Celebrations at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium still continues, with Combined Royal Salute followed by three cheers from the Parade.

The Parade by the combined disciplinary forces now leave Sir Hubert Murray Stadium back to Government House.
