Mr. Kouoru, aged 55, breathed his last on Friday, January 12, 2024.
Born on September 1, 1968, in Koialahu village, Gulf Province, Joshua Kouoru's illustrious rugby league journey commenced when he debuted as a PNG Kumul in 1991 against France in Goroka. Playing both off the bench and as a winger, he proudly wore the Kumul jersey, representing Papua New Guinea in four (4) test matches.
Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Joshua Kouoru dedicated significant years in service to the sport. Post-retirement, he continued his commitment in various capacities, imparting his invaluable experience and game knowledge to roles with his home provincial club, the Gulf Isou. His friendly and familiar presence on the way to matches at the Santos National Football Stadium endeared him to fans and fellow enthusiasts.
The PNGRFL extends its deepest condolences to the grieving family of Joshua Kouoru. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Moru Kouoru, his children Steven, Susan, Audrey, Molly, and Francis, as well as his six (6) grandchildren and extended family and loved ones during this time of profound grief.
