 SP PNG Hunters Recognize Outstanding Players at End-of-Season Awards during a ceremony that highlighted the exceptional performances and contributions of the team throughout the 2024 season. The awards night celebrated the resilience, growth, and talent of the players, marking the end of a season filled with remarkable achievements under head coach Paul Aiton.


Despite narrowly missing out on a spot in the grand final, the Hunters consistently showcased their fighting spirit, overcoming numerous challenges to secure their place among the competition’s top teams. A blend of veteran leadership and emerging talent defined their gritty finals campaign, capturing the attention of fans across the Pacific.

As the season concluded, Aiton expressed pride in his team’s efforts. “It’s been an incredible journey this year,” he said. “The boys showed tremendous heart and resilience, and we’ve seen real growth both as individuals and as a team. While we fell just short of the ultimate goal, we’ll come back stronger next year.”


The following players were honoured for their exceptional contributions during the 2024 season:


  • Finley Glare – Rookie of the Year

  • Sanny Wabo – Best Back

Wabo consistently troubled opposition defenses with his exceptional speed, vision, and playmaking abilities. His tireless efforts were pivotal in the Hunters’ successful campaign.


  • Valentine Richard – Best Forward

Richard was a standout player in the forward pack throughout the season. His powerful running, hard-hitting defense, and relentless work rate earned him the Best Forward accolade.


  • Ila Alu – Coaches Award

Alu embodied the Hunters’ core values of hard work, commitment, and leadership. His professionalism and consistent performances, both on and off the field, were instrumental to the team’s success.


  • Jamie Mavoko – Club Person of the Year

Mavoko’s contributions extended beyond the field. His dedication to the club, leadership, and community engagement earned him the Club Person of the Year award.


  • Judah Rimbu – Player of the Year

Rimbu had a stellar season, consistently delivering game-breaking performances. His versatility and relentless determination made him a cornerstone of the team’s success.
