Woman kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered in PNG's Capital Port Moresby
The Baruni area of Port Moresby has been left reeling after a horrifying and savage attack that ended in the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a woman. The incident occurred at the Watermark Estate in the Moresby North-West Electorate of the National Capital District, where over twenty armed men allegedly stormed the property, committing a series of heinous crimes that have shocked the nation.
According to Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi, who commands the National Capital District (NCD) and Central Provinces, the attackers entered the estate yesterday and overpowered security guards by tying them up. They then abducted a woman from the premises before fleeing the scene. Hours later, at approximately 2 a.m., the victim was brutally assaulted. She was raped, mutilated, and ultimately murdered in an act of unimaginable cruelty.
The security guards, after managing to free themselves, immediately alerted authorities. However, despite a rapid response, police arrived too late to prevent the tragedy. Investigators are now working to gather evidence and identify those responsible for the crime.
"This is a barbaric and utterly inhumane act," Turi said, condemning the perpetrators in the strongest terms. "No human being should ever have to endure such violence. My team is committed to ensuring justice is served, and we urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in bringing these criminals to account."
Turi also revealed that similar violent incidents have occurred in the Baruni area in the past, underscoring the urgent need for improved security measures. He appealed to the community for cooperation, emphasizing that witnesses could play a pivotal role in expediting the investigation and ensuring the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
The brutal killing has sent shockwaves through the region, leaving residents devastated and demanding answers. Many have expressed their grief and outrage over the senseless loss of life, calling for stronger protections for vulnerable communities.
In a related development, the attack has drawn attention to ongoing tensions surrounding land ownership and eviction efforts in the Baruni area. Authorities have disclosed that significant developments are planned for the region, necessitating the relocation of settlers currently residing there. Evictions have reportedly been underway, but the process has been fraught with controversy, with some accusing authorities of failing to address the underlying issues of safety and accountability in the area. Acting Assistant Commissioner Turi urged the rightful landowners to come forward urgently to resolve these disputes, stressing the need for transparency and fairness in addressing both the immediate and long-term challenges facing the community.
