Nominee for Prime Minister, Sir Peter Ipatas, Urges Leaders to Unite for PNG's Future

Papua New Guinea’s nominee for Prime Minister, Sir Peter Ipatas, has expressed his commitment to serve the people of the country, stating that he has been nominated not out of political ambition but with a genuine desire to bring about positive change. Sir Ipatas, who has served as the Governor of Enga for 27 years, emphasized his long-standing dedication to improving the lives of his people through various policies, programs, and infrastructure developments in his home province.

In his address, Sir Ipatas stated that his nomination was supported by leaders from both the government and opposition, calling it a clear indication of his capability and the urgent need for strong leadership in the face of the country’s current challenges. He highlighted the nation’s ongoing economic decline, weak governance systems, and the breakdown in law and order as critical issues that threaten the stability of the country.

"I am not politically ambitious, but my ambition is to serve my people and my country, to ensure that they have better lives under a democratic system," Sir Ipatas said, adding that the country is at a crossroads and facing the risk of collapse if swift action is not taken. He further noted that his nomination, which he referred to as “God sent,” was a call to restore the country’s prosperity and unity.

Sir Ipatas expressed his belief that the country does not require advanced technologies or new knowledge to address its challenges. He stressed that Papua New Guinea already has the necessary laws and institutions in place, and what is needed now is strong, focused leadership. He called for a collective effort from all leaders, regardless of political affiliation, to unite and serve the people with honesty and integrity, as enshrined in the country’s constitution.

"The constitution was written for the sake of prosperity and equality, and we must ensure that we adhere to its principles to create a better future for our people," Sir Ipatas added. He also urged young leaders to adopt the values of justice and fairness, emphasizing that leadership must be based on service to the people, not personal gain.

In conclusion, Sir Ipatas proposed a two-year timeframe to realign the country and address its pressing issues. He reassured the nation that once stability is restored, he would step aside and hand over leadership to someone capable of guiding the country towards prosperity. He called on all leaders to set aside differences and work together to secure the future of Papua New Guinea.

"I am asking for only two years to get this country back on track. After that, I will gladly hand the mantle back to someone who is capable," Sir Ipatas said, stressing the importance of unity and collective action.
