Delivering his remarks before an energetic crowd at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, Soaki praised PNG’s 50 years of independence and expressed admiration for the country’s cultural strength and spiritual values.

He thanked Governor Powes Parkop and the NCDC for facilitating the Pacific Story celebration, saying it offered a platform for Pacific communities living in PNG to come together and showcase their identities.

Soaki also acknowledged the important relationship between PNG and Solomon Islands, citing shared religious ties, intermarriages, trade, and education.

He noted symbolic milestones such as the Solomon Islands’ former Prime Minister Sogavare being born in PNG, and the current PM Manele being an alumnus of UPNG.

He called for the Pacific Story to ignite a broader movement of friendship and cooperation throughout the region, beyond just the festive occasion.

Traditional Solomon Islands performances added colour and energy to the event, with artists such as Wantok Point of View, Cool Roots, and cultural groups from Malaita and Western Province taking the stage.
