Tahnee Norris Reappointed to Lead Santos PNG Orchids to 2026 World Cup

In a renewed commitment to long-term development, the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) has confirmed the reappointment of Tahnee Norris as Head Coach of the Santos PNG Orchids through to the 2026 Rugby League World Cup. The decision comes as part of PNGRFL’s broader vision to foster consistency and elite performance in women’s rugby league.

PNGRFL CEO Stanley Hondina stated that Norris’s extension signals a firm shift toward sustainable growth and team building. He said the organization acknowledges public expectations but believes real progress is achieved through leadership continuity and a well-defined development strategy.

Norris, who is currently in Port Moresby for the Santos Cup Football Conference, said she is both grateful and excited about the opportunity. “We’ve laid the groundwork, and now it’s time to build something truly special. I’m committed to this team and to our journey ahead,” she said.

In addition to leading the team into the 2026 RLWC, Norris will also coach the Orchids in two key trial matches: against the Australian Defence Force in Port Moresby on 15th June, and against the Brisbane Broncos NRLW side on 22nd June in Brisbane.

Hondina said Norris’s appointment fits into a bigger strategy involving domestic competition development, the ‘Wan Haus’ local coaching initiative, and preparations for the 2025 Pacific Championships. “Tahnee’s work ethic and international experience align with our long-term goals,” he noted.

Chairlady of the Santos PNG Orchids, Celestine Ove, praised the reappointment, noting that Norris’s expertise would further benefit coaching staff and support development within the PNGRFL system. She said the leadership continuity will help strengthen the entire women’s program.

The Santos PNG Orchids, alongside the PNG LNG Kumuls, will represent the country in the 2025 Pacific Bowl Championships. PNGRFL remains confident the team, under Norris’s leadership, can deliver performances that will make PNG proud.
