SP PNG Hunters Hold On for Home Win Against Northern Pride

A determined SP PNG Hunters side held on for a 20-16 victory over Northern Pride in a tight Hostplus Cup contest at Santos National Football Stadium on Saturday.

The Hunters raced to a 10-4 halftime lead with tries from Elijah Roltinga and Alex Max. They extended their advantage in the second half through Sanny Wabo and another try from Roltinga, while Trevor Solu and Jamie Mavoko added two key conversions.

Northern Pride responded with three tries but were unable to snatch the win. Their scorers included Esom Ioka, Kenneth Fonoti, and Nicholas Lenaz, with Seamus King-Smith converting two attempts.

A sin-bin to Pride’s Quinnlan Tupou in the 9th minute gave the Hunters early momentum, which they capitalized on effectively.

The win keeps the Hunters competitive and energizes their campaign as they look ahead to tougher matchups in the coming rounds.
