Solomon Islands Women Stun PNG in Historic OFC Final

In one of the most dramatic finals in the history of the OFC Women’s Nations Cup, the Solomon Islands defied all odds to defeat Papua New Guinea 3-2 in extra time and capture their first-ever international title at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, Fiji.

It was a game of heart, grit, and redemption. Lorina Solosaia gave the Solomons an early spark, and Madeline Arukau added a stunning free kick to restore their lead after PNG captain Ramona Padio leveled once. Down to ten players after a red card, PNG refused to fold, with Padio again stepping up with a thunderous strike to make it 2-2.

But extra-time hero Jemina David etched her name into history, slotting home the winner in the 94th minute, triggering emotional celebrations from fans and players alike.

For a team playing in its first final, the Solomon Islands showed the spirit of champions — becoming the fifth nation to lift the coveted cup and signaling a new era for women’s football in the Pacific.
