Police Parade Sets the Tone for PNG's 50th Independence Milestone
The sounds of marching boots, barking police dogs, and rhythmic band music filled Ela Beach on Sunday as the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) launched the country’s 50th Independence anniversary celebrations in style.
Dubbed the Police Pacific Band Tattoo, the event featured spectacular performances and tactical displays by the Special Services Division, Dog Unit, and Water Police. It drew hundreds of onlookers who witnessed first-hand the discipline and coordination of the national police force.

National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop, who officiated at the event, paid tribute to the RPNGC’s enduring legacy and resilience.
“For 50 years, the RPNGC has stood firm in the face of challenges. It remains a cornerstone of our national unity and development,” Parkop said.
He also reflected on the force’s colonial beginnings in 1902 and the important role of Pacific police officers in helping unite the country’s many tribes and cultures.
“Our goal is a peaceful, prosperous, and united PNG where everyone respects each other’s culture and faith,” Parkop said.
