PNG PM Marape Marks Expo 2025 National Day, Reinforces Japan Ties and Investment Opportunities

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape used PNG’s National Day celebration at World Expo 2025 in Osaka to spotlight the country’s enduring relationship with Japan and promote economic cooperation on the global stage.

Speaking to an audience of Japanese government officials, business leaders, and expo visitors, Marape expressed deep appreciation for Japan’s support over the past 50 years, calling the relationship one of mutual respect and shared vision.

“Japan has been a steadfast partner throughout our journey as a nation,” he said. “This Expo is a chance for us to reaffirm that bond and present ourselves as a country ready for meaningful partnerships.”

The Prime Minister highlighted opportunities for investment in green technology, tourism, and Special Economic Zones, tying PNG’s goals to the Expo’s forward-looking theme of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” He also underscored PNG’s strategic position in the Asia-Pacific and commitment to sustainable growth.

The National Day celebration featured cultural performances and a showcase at PNG’s pavilion, where Marape later interacted with high-tech displays. His next stop is Tokyo, where he will meet Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba for further bilateral discussions.
