The painting was carried out in Canada at the Airbus Mirabel facility, where 120 painters worked around the clock using eleven colours and specialized stencil and airbrushing techniques. This marks only the second time Airbus has applied such complex methods to an A220 model.
According to Acting CEO Captain Samiu Taufa, the aircraft is not only a modern addition to Air Niugini’s fleet but also a national symbol of unity and aspiration. He highlighted that the milestone represents the airline’s dedication to modernization while honouring PNG’s heritage.
The A220 will deliver major efficiency gains, with lower fuel consumption and reduced noise levels. Passengers can expect a more comfortable journey with wide seats, large overhead bins, free Wi-Fi, and a quieter cabin environment.
Air Niugini has ordered eleven A220 aircraft in total, with three due to arrive before year’s end. The first "People’s Balus" will touch down in Port Moresby in September, aligning with the nation’s golden jubilee festivities.
