PNG PM Marape Revokes Curse, Calls on God to Heal the Nation

Marape reflected on the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare’s words from 1975, when he reminded Papua New Guineans that no human wisdom could unite more than a thousand tribes and 800 languages without God’s guidance. “This nation must be anchored in God, and God alone,” he said.
The stadium was filled with worshippers from different denominations who sang hymns and joined live gospel performances by P2UIF and African gospel singer Sinach. Marape urged citizens to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation while rededicating Papua New Guinea to God.
He acknowledged that his earlier pronouncement of a curse was intended for corrupt leaders and public servants but stressed it was never meant for the entire nation. “I remove the curse I made seven years ago as it is not for the nation, and I ask for forgiveness,” he said.
Marape added that true repentance must be shown through personal and collective transformation at all levels of society, including the nation’s leadership. He also declared that if he himself stood in the way of progress, God should remove him and appoint a better leader for Papua New Guinea.
