PNG Commissions Three New Heads of Missions
Papua New Guinea Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkatchenko has announced the commissioning of three new Heads of Missions to represent the country in Switzerland, the Philippines, and Fiji.
The new appointees include Her Excellency Ms. Jacinta Tony-Barrion, who has been designated as the High Commissioner to the Republic of Fiji. Also commissioned was Her Excellency Ms. Michelle Hau 'Ofa, who takes up the role of Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and Ambassador to Switzerland. His Excellency Mr. Stephen Pokanis has been appointed as Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines.
Minister Tkatchenko said the appointments reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening Papua New Guinea’s diplomatic presence in key international locations. He noted that each of the new Heads of Missions brings professional expertise and dedication to advancing the country’s interests abroad.
“These individuals will serve as the faces of Papua New Guinea at their respective postings and will carry our national flag with pride,” Tkatchenko stated. He expressed confidence that their representation would further enhance partnerships with Fiji, Switzerland, and the Philippines, as well as with global institutions.
The minister emphasized that the newly commissioned diplomats are expected to contribute to advancing PNG’s foreign policy goals, building international cooperation, and promoting the nation’s values and interests on the world stage.
