The facility, valued at around US$400 million (approximately K1.6 billion), will have a storage capacity exceeding 250 million litres of jet fuel.
Landau highlighted that the construction phase would generate employment opportunities and attract further investment to the region, boosting local economic activity.
The project is part of the US-PNG Defence Cooperation Agreement signed in 2023, reflecting deepening military and economic ties between the two countries.
“The project will enhance both the economy and security of Papua New Guinea and the wider region,” Landau said, thanking the landowners for their cooperation in the development.
Admiral Paparo described the ceremony as more than just a turning of the soil, saying it represents a long-term commitment to the community and to PNG, promising growth, opportunities, and strengthened bilateral bonds.
