Visa Signs Historic Three-Year Deal with PNG Rugby League

The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) has announced a three-year platinum partnership with Visa, the global leader in digital payments, to sponsor the PNG LNG Kumuls. The partnership, unveiled in Port Moresby today, will run from 2025 to 2028.

PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka described the deal as a landmark moment for PNG sports, marking the first time rugby league in the country has partnered with a global brand of Visa’s stature. He said the sponsorship reflects the game’s growth from grassroots development to the nation’s ambition to enter the National Rugby League by 2028.

“This partnership highlights rugby league’s unique place in PNG society — as a sport, a unifying force, and a pathway for young people,” Tsaka said. “Visa’s values align with ours, and together we will inspire a better future for the game and for the country.”

Visa’s Country Manager for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, Anthony Watson, said the company was proud to support the Kumuls, calling it a commitment to PNG’s future. “Rugby league brings communities together, and with digital technology advancing, Visa is excited to help unlock new opportunities for inclusion and progress,” he said.

The partnership will see the Visa logo featured on the Kumuls’ jersey and training gear. PNGRFL confirmed that Visa will join the national team’s campaign for the Pacific Bowl Championships and the Rugby League World Cup in 2026, co-hosted by Australia and Papua New Guinea.
