PNG Opposition MP Slams PM Marape’s “Failed 2025 Budget”
Papua New Guinea Opposition MP and Member for Chuave, Hon. James Nomane, has launched a scathing attack on the Marape Government’s 2025 National Budget, calling it a “failure” that has brought little tangible development to the country.
In a strong statement, Mr. Nomane accused Prime Minister James Marape’s administration of empty slogans and poor fiscal management, saying the government’s promises of transformation have not materialized. He described the 2025 K28.357 billion budget as “a historic game changer” in words only, but one that failed to deliver services to provinces and districts.

Mr. Nomane claimed that Chuave District has yet to receive its K20 million allocation under DSIP, DIP, and Kina-for-Kina programs, while Simbu Province is still waiting for its K34 million functional grants. “Why are we expected to be beggars in Waigani like the money belongs to the Prime Minister?” he questioned.
He said the Marape government’s spending and borrowing were unsustainable, leading to inequitable budget implementation and selective warranting that disadvantaged many regions. The Opposition MP accused the administration of prioritizing political allies over national interests.
Nomane said after six years of Pangu-led rule, the government’s continued fiscal failures and poor policy delivery reflected “weak leadership driven by vanity and ego.” He urged fellow MPs to evaluate the Prime Minister’s performance based on tangible results, not rhetoric.
He also announced plans to seek Supreme Court enforcement of the Appropriations Act, citing the inequitable distribution of funds that has deprived Chuave and Simbu of their rightful allocations. “It’s the people’s money we’re talking about. They pay taxes, they suffer inflation, and they carry the weight of the government’s debt,” he said.
Nomane concluded by warning that PNG’s national debt had ballooned to K65 billion, yet no significant investments have emerged from the spending. “Who will stop this madness?” he asked, calling for transparent and accountable leadership that prioritizes equity and results.
