PNG Politics: Allan Bird and Bryan Kramer's political parties among others to be deregistered

Papua New Guinea’s Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates, Emmanuel Pok, has confirmed plans to deregister 32 political parties at the end of this month due to non-compliance with the Organic Law.

He said the Registry had issued notices on September 30 and allowed 21 days for responses before the October 30 deadline.

Mr Pok said the list includes some well-known parties such as East Sepik Governor Allan Bird’s People’s Reform Party, the PNG First Party, New Generation Party, and Bryan Kramer’s Allegiance Party.

He stated that the main reason for the action was the failure of these parties to submit annual financial returns under Section 88 of the Organic Law.

According to Mr Pok, only the People’s Reform Party, Liberal Party, and PNG Country Party have so far responded to the notice.

He said it was disappointing to see most parties neglect their legal obligations despite having ample time to comply.

Mr Pok stressed that enforcing accountability is essential for maintaining public trust and strengthening PNG’s democratic system.
