Dr. Kombra told the media today that his department is investigating how students managed to access the materials before the exams began. He said the point of entry for the breach is still unknown, but a full investigation is underway to determine the extent of the leak.

“Cheating in examinations through having access to papers before the official date is one of the most serious academic crimes in PNG,” Dr. Kombra said. He added that the act of stealing and selling exam materials is a criminal offence punishable by law.

The Secretary reminded the public that students and teachers caught engaging in exam fraud will be terminated immediately and could face legal action. “Students and teachers who are involved in cheating will be terminated on the spot without proper documentation of release,” he warned.

Dr. Kombra urged parents and community members to report any information about the illegal selling or sharing of exam materials in their areas.

He also addressed reports circulating on social media, stressing that the Department of Education is still verifying facts before releasing full details.

Dr. Kombra reaffirmed the department’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of PNG’s education system and ensuring that national examinations remain credible and fair.
