The tournament is scheduled to run from November 10 to 22, 2025, with matches set at the PNG Football Stadium, Sir John Guise Stadium, and potentially in Lae, Morobe Province. Prime Minister Marape described football as a powerful bridge connecting the people of Melanesia.
“Sports unite people,” Marape said. “This tournament is not just about competition—it is about celebrating our shared Melanesian identity and strengthening our bonds as a family of nations.”
He extended a warm invitation to visiting teams from Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia, saying PNG would ensure a memorable and hospitable experience. “We take pride in welcoming our Wantoks from across Melanesia,” he said.
Marape also commended Leonard Louma for his role in coordinating the tournament and praised John Kapi Natto for his leadership in advancing football both in PNG and the region. He reiterated his government’s plans to integrate sports into the education system to nurture young athletes.
“Sports give our young people an alternative career pathway,” Marape said. “We are building a future where every child has access to opportunities in sports, discipline, and excellence.”
