PNG Prime Minister Marape Applauds Brisbane Broncos’ Role in Empowering Youth

 Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has applauded the Brisbane Broncos for inspiring thousands of young people during their nationwide visit, calling their engagement a model of sports diplomacy and youth empowerment.

Mr. Marape said the presence of both the Broncos’ men’s and women’s teams in PNG had left a lasting impact on communities, reinforcing the power of rugby league to bring people together. “The Brisbane Broncos’ engagement with our youth through rugby league demonstrates the power of sport to unite, motivate, and shape character,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the club for recognising PNG’s passion for rugby league and for motivating young people to dream big. The delegation included star players Adam Reynolds, Ben Hunt, and Ezra Mam, along with women’s players Romy Teitzel, Jada Ferguson, and Shenae Ciesiolka.

Mr. Marape said his government remains committed to supporting sporting initiatives that nurture talent, discipline, and national unity. “The Broncos’ visit is a shining example of how international cooperation in sport can positively impact communities,” he added.

The Broncos received a rousing reception in Port Moresby, where thousands gathered at the airport, Vision City Mega Mall, and Santos National Football Stadium during the PNG Kumuls’ match against the Cook Islands.

Their tour continued to Tari, Mt Hagen, and Goroka, where excited fans once again turned out in huge numbers to welcome their NRL heroes, reaffirming rugby league’s special place in the hearts of Papua New Guineans.
