The uniforms, produced by Australian Defence Apparel (ADA), meet the same standards as those worn by Australian troops, reflecting a push to professionalise and modernise PNG’s defence capabilities.
Defence Minister Dr. Billy M. Joseph said the initiative demonstrates the growing partnership between the two countries’ armed forces. “This cooperation strengthens the professionalism, morale, and operational readiness of our soldiers,” he said.
He added that the government’s aim is to align PNGDF’s equipment, logistics, and operational standards with Australia’s Defence Force through ongoing collaboration.
The Pukpuk Treaty, signed in Canberra by Prime Minister James Marape and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, formalises both countries as mutual defence partners committed to regional stability.
The uniform handover will be among the first visible outcomes of the treaty, symbolising a new chapter in defence cooperation between PNG and Australia.
