PNG’s Air Niugini Expands Fleet with Two More Airbus A220 Jets

Papua New Guinea’s national airline, Air Niugini, is preparing to welcome two more brand-new Airbus A220-300 aircraft from Canada before the year concludes, further advancing its ongoing fleet renewal program.

This comes after the landmark arrival of the first A220-300, P2-PGA, on September 15, a moment that coincided with the country’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

In a statement, Air Niugini said the next two aircraft, registered as P2-PGB and P2-PGC, are currently taking shape and will soon join the fleet to support its ongoing transformation.

Unlike the first aircraft that proudly wears the 50th Anniversary livery in PNG’s national colors, the two new additions will showcase the airline’s traditional Bird of Paradise design — a symbol of national pride and connection to the world.

The airline confirmed that both aircraft are in the final stages of completion and will arrive before year’s end, bringing a new level of passenger comfort, fuel efficiency, and operational reliability.

Air Niugini emphasized that the acquisition is more than a fleet upgrade — it represents a new chapter for PNG aviation, enhancing connectivity within the nation and beyond.

Once in service, the new A220s will play a crucial role in improving travel between major domestic destinations and regional international routes.
