PNG’s rugby league production line continues to shine as the SP PNG Hunters confirmed their new pre-season training squad, following another wave of players securing overseas contracts. Four Hunters — Robert Mathias, Epel Kapinias, Gairo Voro and Finley Glare — have signed with the London Broncos in the UK Championship, reinforcing the club’s growing reputation as a pathway to higher-level competitions.

Their move places them alongside PNG Kumuls coach Jason Demetriou and former Hunters playmaker Morea Morea Jnr at the London outfit as it pushes for promotion into the Super League. The signings follow the recent capture of ex-Hunters duo Solo Wane and Judah Rimbu by the Brisbane Tigers.
With four former Hunters now at the Tigers, and another four preparing to represent the Central Capras in the 2026 Hostplus Cup season, the club’s influence continues to expand across the rugby league landscape.
Although the departures remove valuable experience, staff say the changes open doors for rising talent from the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup to fight for selection and enter the professional system. The fresh training squad reflects the club’s confidence in its next generation.
Head Coach Paul Aiton and his high-performance staff have been widely acknowledged for strengthening the club’s development pathway through structured training, discipline and player support on and off the field.
The Hunters’ impact was also evident in the most recent PNG Kumuls Test Match, where 10 of the 17 players selected had progressed through the Hunters system, underscoring the club’s central role in shaping PNG’s elite rugby league future ahead of the PNG Chiefs’ NRL debut in 2028.
