PNG Men Encouraged to Join Family Planning Through New MSPNG Initiative

Marie Stopes PNG (MSPNG) is stepping up efforts to involve men in family planning in Central Province by joining forces with Native Link, a community-focused NGO. The partnership aims to promote vasectomy as a safe and cost-effective contraceptive option, while encouraging shared responsibility between men and women.

The collaboration was announced during a recent inception meeting to prepare for MSPNG’s vasectomy outreach program in Central Province. This initiative is part of a broader, five-year national project to expand access to non-scalpel vasectomy (NSV) services and normalize male participation in reproductive health.

Native Link’s well-established community networks, particularly in youth development, health, education, and GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion), make them a key partner. They will assist in mobilizing communities, raising awareness, and identifying Vasectomy Champions to lead peer education efforts, while ensuring marginalized groups are included in the outreach.

Although MSPNG has delivered thousands of NSV procedures nationwide, uptake in Central Province remains lower than expected. Through this partnership, both organizations aim to reduce stigma, build trust, and empower men to actively engage in family planning.

This collaboration signals a new chapter in community-led health solutions, supporting healthier families and stronger participation from men in Central Province.
