The Constabulary recently ended its second batch of screening, following the first round involving Southern and Momase candidates who are now training at the Bomana National Centre of Excellence. Highlands and NGI recruits will commence their training early next year once final checks are completed.
A total of 2,267 candidates were shortlisted across the two regions—1,754 from the Highlands and 513 from the NGI. The Highlands figures include 509 from Eastern Highlands, 457 from Simbu, 330 from Western Highlands, 209 from Jiwaka, 134 from Southern Highlands, 92 from Enga and 23 from Hela. From NGI, 198 were from East New Britain, 188 from West New Britain, 63 from Manus, 38 from New Ireland and 26 from Bougainville.
The RPNGC said the strict vetting process is essential to ensuring that only qualified individuals enter the force. Many applicants were excluded for failing to attend interviews or lacking proper documents such as certificates, IDs or verified transcripts. Several were also disqualified for not meeting the height requirement.
The entirely online application system continues to prove effective, enabling cross-checks with agencies like the Measurement Services Unit, NID and Civil Registry, and accredited upgrading centres. This collaboration helped remove applicants carrying falsified documents.
With recruitment now complete, the Constabulary will release the final list of accepted trainees in the next statement. Interested candidates are advised that the next nationwide call-out will take place in December 2025.
