Miss Western Highlands Crowned New Miss Bird of Paradise PNG

 PNG’s pageant stage lit up with colour and pride as Miss Western Highlands Province, Yampela Popena, emerged as the new Miss Bird of Paradise PNG. The evening brought together tradition, modern talent, and the aspirations of young women stepping forward to represent their provinces.

Popena secured K20,000, a return trip to Israel, a gold necklace and pendant, a bouquet, and automatic entry into the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant and other international events. She will also take part in cultural engagements and promotional visits around PNG.

Miss Enga Province claimed the First Runner-Up spot with K15,000 and a silver jewelry set, followed by Miss East Sepik Province with K10,000. Miss Gulf Province placed third with K7,000, while all other contestants received K1,000 and silver pendants.

The Western Highlands contestant also topped the Major Awards, taking out key categories including the Pre-Pageant Interview, Miss Traditional, Sarong, and Best Talent. Miss Enga performed strongly in the One Minute Intro, Traditionally Inspired Dress, Best Designer, and Stage Interview.

Contestants from Enga, Morobe, and Western Province shared the Minor Awards, each earning K2,000. The Special Awards saw Miss Gulf and Miss Sandaun tie for the Entrepreneurship Award, while Miss Western Highlands added Best Float and K5,000 to her tally.

The pageant closed on a high note, celebrating determination and cultural heritage — “a night honouring every PNG woman who steps forward with confidence.”
