PNG Air Niugini Adds Third Airbus A220-300 to Growing Fleet

PNG’s national airline, Air Niugini, has taken delivery of its third brand-new Airbus A220-300 aircraft, marking another step forward in the carrier’s fleet renewal program.

The aircraft, registered P2-PGC, touched down at Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby at midday on Thursday, December 18, after completing a long ferry flight from Montreal, Canada.

The delivery flight was captained by Air Niugini’s Captain Beverly Paki, supported by Airbus pilot Captain Thomas Oberreiter, while Air Niugini pilot Captain Joachim Ortlauf joined the journey as an observer.

The aircraft departed Montreal on December 14 and made scheduled stopovers in Vancouver, Honolulu and Fiji before its final leg into Port Moresby.

Upon arrival, the A220-300 was welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute and blessing, formally ushering the aircraft into Air Niugini’s operational fleet.

The arrival ceremony was attended by Minister for State-Owned Enterprises, William Duma, along with other government ministers, senior public servants, members of the diplomatic corps, airline partners, statutory body representatives, and Air Niugini board members, management and staff.
