The civil society project will be implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), while the cocoa initiative will be delivered by World Vision Society, targeting smallholder farmers in Bogia to improve market access and production standards.
The signing was officiated by European Union Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Erika Hasznos, UNDP Resident Representative Nicolas Booth, World Vision Associate Program Operations Director Smith Sipaka, and Deputy Secretary for the Department of Community Development and Religion, Karen Haive.
Ambassador Hasznos said the two initiatives reflect the European Union’s long-term partnership with PNG, with a focus on inclusive development, stronger community institutions and sustainable agriculture.
She said civil society organisations play a critical role across the country, particularly in remote and underserved communities where access to basic services remains a challenge.
“In Papua New Guinea, Civil Society Organisations are essential, especially in remote and underserved regions where development challenges are prevalent,” Ambassador Hasznos said.
